List the equipment first
Write down the TV, soundbar, consoles, router, streaming devices and anything that needs charging. Include dimensions, the location of connections and any likely changes in the next few years.
Allow space beyond the device itself
Plugs, cable bends, ventilation and servicing need space. A cupboard that matches the width of a console exactly is unlikely to be a practical equipment cupboard.
Separate display and everyday storage
Open niches are useful for selected objects, while closed cupboards control visual clutter. Decide what you want to see every day before dividing the wall into shelves.
Keep a route back to the connections
Ask how sockets, plugs and serviceable components will be reached after the wall is finished. Access should be part of the agreed design, not a hole cut later.
